The most common method is the water float test: place a clean strand of hair in a glass of water. If it floats, you have low porosity. If it sinks slowly, you have medium/normal porosity. If it sinks quickly, you have high porosity. The app will guide you through this process.
Our scoring algorithm analyzes product ingredients against established hair science research for each porosity type. While individual results may vary based on other hair factors, our scores provide a reliable starting point for making informed product decisions.
No! HairPaired works completely offline and doesn't require any account creation. Your porosity preference and scan history are stored locally on your device for maximum privacy.
If we don't recognize a barcode, you can still manually enter the product ingredients (found on the label) and we'll analyze them for compatibility with your hair porosity.
